Rivolta publicado en la revista British Medical Bulletin. 2013; 105 (1): 69-84 doi:10.1093\/bmb\/lds035 destaca que para la mayor\u00eda de los tipos de trastornos auditivos, una terapia definitiva se basar\u00eda en la capacidad de restituir las c\u00e9lulas ciliadas y las neuronas del ganglio espiral. La \u00fanica t\u00e9cnica establecida para tratar la sordera est\u00e1 basada en la sustituci\u00f3n funcional de las c\u00e9lulas ciliadas con un implante coclear, lo cual a\u00fan presenta limitaciones importantes. Nuevas estrategias curativas, que se extienden desde la terapia de c\u00e9lulas madres a la terapia g\u00e9nica y molecular, est\u00e1n en desarrollo. El aislamiento de c\u00e9lulas auditivas humanas, la generaci\u00f3n de protocolos para controlar su diferenciaci\u00f3n en linajes sensoriales, su aplicaci\u00f3n prometedora in vivo y la identificaci\u00f3n de genes claves como objetivos a nivel molecular, brindan un paisaje excitante.
