\u00a0Los expertos europeos participantes en el proyecto MetaHIT est\u00e1n ultimando una nueva herramienta para identificar los genes de las bacterias presentes en la flora intestinal y que juegan un papel clave en el sistema inmune y en la nutrici\u00f3n. La identificaci\u00f3n de estos genes facilitar\u00e1 el desarrollo de investigaciones sobre patolog\u00edas como la obesidad, la enfermedad de Crohn o la enfermedad inflamatoria intestinal.<\/form>\n

Concretamente, el proyecto MetaHIT es un consorcio europeo iniciado en enero de 2008que cuenta con la participaci\u00f3n de 13 grupos de investigaci\u00f3n, entre los que se encuentra el Instituto de Investigaci\u00f3n del Hospital Vall d’Hebron de Barcelona, \u00fanico representante espa\u00f1ol.<\/p>\n

En palabras del Dr. Francisco Guarner, responsable de la investigaci\u00f3n en el grupo de Fisiolog\u00eda y Fisiopatolog\u00eda Digestiva del Hospital Vall d’Hebron, \u201cse han realizado importantes progresos en el desarrollo de un instrumento que permita catalogar los genes de las bacterias de la flora intestinal\u201d.<\/p>\n

As\u00ed, los estudios preliminares llevados a cabo sobre 120 pacientes han concluido que existen tres millones de genes distintos pertenecientes a microorganismos que habitan en el cuerpo humano y que est\u00e1n asociados al proceso vital del individuo. Unos resultados a\u00fan pendientes de validaci\u00f3n cient\u00edfica, si bien, como explica el Dr. Guarner, \u201cen cada persona encontramos el 80% de estos tres millones de genes\u201d.<\/p>\n

La creaci\u00f3n de una herramienta que permita la identificaci\u00f3n r\u00e1pida de estos genes es \u2018clave\u2019 para poder investigar el papel de las bacterias en el funcionamiento del cuerpo humano y, concretamente, en el sistema inmune y en la nutrici\u00f3n. A modo de ejemplo, indica el Dr. Guarner, \u201cpodremos identificar qu\u00e9 genes act\u00faan como protectores para enfermedades que no se curan con facilidad, como el Crohn\u201d.<\/p>\n

Seg\u00fan los miembros del MetaHIT, se prev\u00e9 que los expertos habr\u00e1n desarrollado el instrumento para estudiar \u201cf\u00e1cilmente\u201d la microflora humana para 2010.
