Effects of an educational intervention on diabetes mellitus in patients from three family clinics of the Lawton polyclinic

RESUMEN
Como parte del Programa Nacional de Educación al Paciente Diabético y su aplicación en la atención primaria se lleva a cabo una intervención educativa en 60 pacientes diabéticos pertenecientes a tres consultorios médicos del Policlínico Lawton. Se evalúa el grado de conocimientos de los pacientes sobre su autocuidado y control antes y después de la intervención educativa, los cuales aumentaron de forma significativa independientemente de la edad, tiempo de evolución de la enfermedad y grado de escolaridad. Se analiza el comportamiento del control metabólico de los pacientes al inicio y durante los ocho meses posteriores a la intervención lo cual también mejoró significativamente.

As part of the National Program for Diabetic Patient Education and its application in primary care, an educational intervention is carried out on 60 diabetic patients belonging to three medical offices of the Lawton Polyclinic. The degree of knowledge of the patients about their self-care and control before and after the educational intervention, which increased significantly regardless of age, time of disease evolution and degree of schooling, was evaluated. The behavior of the Metabolic Control of the patients was analyzed at the beginning and during the eight months after the intervention, which also improved significantly.
