Auspiciado por el Instituto de Medicina Tropical Pedro Kourí (IPK) y la Universidad de Amberes, Bélgica, el curso Omics in Human Pathogenic Viruses: Dengue, Oropouche and SARS-CoV-2 sesionó en Kurhotel Escambray, Topes de Collantes, Sancti Spiritus, entre el 12 y el 16 de agosto.
El programa del curso incluyó los siguientes temas:
– Introduction to omics sciences. Applications to biomedicine. Prof. Mayra Muné Jiménez, IPK.
– An introduction to genomics: host genetics in susceptibility to viral infections. Prof. Ana Beatriz Pérez Díaz, IPK.
– Epigenetics in health and infectious disease. Prof. Wim Vanden Berghe, Universidad de Amberes.
– Interplay between Oxidative stress and Epigenetics modifications triggered by flavivirus. Prof. Lizette Gil del Valle, IPK.
– An experience teaching omics sciences at the University of Medical Sciences of Las Tunas. Prof. Orlando Rafael Serrano Barrera, Hospital General Docente Dr. Ernesto Guevara de la Serna.
– An introduction to transcriptomics. Insights in transcriptomic approaches to dengue and other arboviruses. Prof. Beatriz Sierra Vázquez, IPK.
– An introduction to different proteomics methods and strategies for medical research. Untangling the molecular aspects of dengue infection with different proteomics approaches. Prof. Xaveer Van Ostade, Universidad de Amberes.

De manera conjunta, también se realizó el taller de cierre del proyecto IPK-VLIR: Strengthening Phytopharmaceutical and OMICs Research as well as Biomedical Education in Three Cuban Institutes by Defining the Clinical and Molecular Effect of a Cuban Curcumin formulation (Curmeric) on Dengue Infection.
Los participantes cubanos en ambas actividades provienen de instituciones de La Habana, Villa Clara, Sancti Spíritus y Las Tunas.
